Mix the warm water, instant yeast, and granulated sugar in a bowl. Let this mixture sit for about 5 minutes, or until it becomes foamy on the surface.
Add the olive oil, plain yogurt, whole egg, and salt to the foamy yeast mixture. Stir to combine everything well.
Gradually add the all-purpose flour a little at a time until you form a soft, slightly sticky dough.
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 6 to 8 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
Cooking
Punch the risen dough down to release any air. Divide it into 8 equal pieces.
Roll each piece into a circle about ¼ inch thick.
Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook each rolled dough circle for about 2 to 3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown spots appear.
Once cooked, brush the naan with melted butter and sprinkle minced garlic or fresh herbs on top if desired.
- If the dough feels too sticky, add more flour.
- Use a cast iron skillet for better results, and don't skip the resting time for fluffy naan.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
